Jill Miller is the Program Creator for Treat While You Train ™ and recently partnered with 24 Hour Fitness to bring Treat While You Train to club markets throughout the U.S. this year. This workout is a form of corrective exercise in a Yoga Tune Up® and The Roll Model® Method.
Miller has more than 29 years of study in anatomy and movement, she is a pioneer in forging relevant links between the worlds of fitness, yoga, massage, athletics and pain management. She has the rare ability to translate complex physiological and biomechanical information into accessible, relevant moves that help her students to transform pain, dysfunction and injury into robust fitness. The purpose of the workout is to remind fitness lovers that there are several aspects to creating a fit lifestyle and it's not just pure cardio. NMF: Has fitness always been a major part of your life or was there a catalyst/point in your life when you made it more of a focus and priority?
Jill Miller (JM): I was a chubby kid. One day during 6th grade my mom brought home the Jane Fonda Workout and the Raquel Welch Yoga Video (Betamax!!) We started doing the videos together and I became OBSESSED. That was my catalyst at age 12, and I’ve never looked back.
NMF: What are a few of your go-to healthy snacks/drinks that help keep you on the straight and narrow?
JM: Water, GoodBelly Probiotic Shots, 70% or greater dark chocolate, organic raw almonds, organic whole milk Greek yogurt.
NMF: At Nadia Murdock Fit our motto is “Train Your Mind, Change Your Body” so we must ask: How do you train your mind and stay motivated?
JM: I spend time everyday doing breath-based meditation to clear my mind and reset my nervous system. Additionally, I use my Roll Model® Therapy Balls each day to calm down, erase pain and stay centered.
NMF: How do you change your body? What are your fitness favorites?
JM: I love self-myofascial release with my Roll Model Therapy Ball program. I also love Strength & Conditioning work to give me the strength to maintain my busy work and travel schedule and the rigors of being a mom of a toddler. And, my favorite exercise is spending time in nature with my family.
Fitness is not just a “thing to do at the gym.” It is maintaining awareness of your body, breath and behavior throughout the day in every context. Make your home and work environment stimulate your need to move and use your body. Take calls during walks. Use the stairs instead of elevator. At home, crawl from room to room in order to stimulate your whole body if you are feeling sluggish. Integrate more whole body movement into your life and you will find that you stay stronger, more mobile and get more enjoyment out of life.
